Liverpool ladies vs Loughborough HC (Friendly)

Sunday 30th October 2016 saw Liverpool Ladies host Loughborough HC in a Halloween friendly at Greenbank Sports Academy.  The standard of opposition was a step up and would be a testing challenge for Liverpool.

Immediately Prior to the match Alicia Clarke (Liverpool HC) had a kit and equipment scare and had to smartly use a number of bandages to enable her just to get onto the court.

The start of the match saw Liverpool lacking gusto, some unusual sluggish play, ghostly passes and a lack lustre defence  saw Liverpool start to show frustration by their own performance with a number of spellbinding 2 minute suspensions given, Liverpool went into half time 8-10 down.

A positive half time team talk saw Liverpool blow off the cobwebs and come out for the second half with energy and determination.  Strong spider saves and fluent witchly attacks saw Liverpool start to score with more regularity, quickly taking the lead for the first time in the match.  In a spookily spectacular second half, Carolyn Dowling (Liverpool) was deemed to be over competitive and received a third 2 minute suspension, there-by excluding her from the game.  Liverpool however, remained resilient, a strong organised and energetic defence and a number of well worked attacks saw Liverpool overturn the deficit and ran out as winners 20-15. A Wojtowicz played like a black cat scoring a lucky 13 goals. C Dowling, when allowed on the court scored 4 goals with the remaining goals spread across the team.

Overall, a pumpkinly poor first half, but a crackling second half with Liverpool showing positive determination and play to respond to the deficit and were deserved winners.

A big thank you to Loughborough HC for their contribution and effort throughout the game.  We would look forward and welcome a return fixture.

Finally, big thanks to Mini wizard referees Tom Michael & Przemyslaw Trzeciecki, who stepped in at last minute to help out.  Both are new to the refereeing arena and we wish them well in their development, Carolyn especially passes on her thanks.

Liverpool are keen to welcome any new / old players to come and join the club and wear the infamous green army kit and be part of our team. Training Thursday 7pm – 9pm at Greenbank Sports Academy.
